(New York ) — Investcorp has closed its second North American private equity fund at $1.22 billion, exceeding its original $1.1 billion target. The fundraising achievement underscores the firm’s ability to attract institutional capital amid a challenging environment for private equity fundraising.
The North American Private Equity Fund II surpassed its predecessor, Fund I, strengthening Investcorp’s position in the North American private equity market, particularly in the middle market, where investors seek companies with long-term growth potential.
Fund II will target middle-market companies operating in business and professional services and commercial services. Investcorp is focusing on businesses with resilient demand, fragmented market structures and long-term secular growth drivers that can support sustainable expansion.
The strategy gives Investcorp opportunities to build value through business expansion, operational improvements and strategic acquisitions. Fragmented industries can also provide attractive consolidation opportunities, allowing portfolio companies to expand their scale by acquiring competitors or other businesses operating in related markets.
Fund II attracted commitments from institutional investors across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The investor base includes longstanding Investcorp backers as well as new limited partners, demonstrating continued support for the firm’s investment strategy in the United States and the broader North American market.
Mohammed Alardhi, Investcorp’s executive chairman, said the United States remains the firm’s largest market and a central pillar of its global growth strategy. He highlighted institutional investors’ commitments as a sign of confidence in Investcorp and its investment approach amid shifting conditions in global capital markets.
Steve Miller, senior managing director and co-head of North American private equity at Investcorp, said the fund’s closing increases the firm’s capacity to invest in business and professional services and commercial services companies. He added that the fundraising result reflects support from both existing and new limited partners.
A key element of Fund II’s strategy is institutional co-investment, which allows selected investors to participate directly alongside Investcorp in individual transactions. The approach provides greater flexibility in structuring investments and enables investors to gain additional exposure to specific opportunities.
Investors in Fund I contributed more than $1 billion in co-investment equity without management fees or carried interest on those co-investments, according to the fundraising materials. Such arrangements can make a private equity manager more attractive to institutional investors seeking greater exposure to individual deals while managing investment costs.
Nicky McGrane, senior managing director and co-head of North American private equity at Investcorp, said existing portfolio companies offer significant opportunities to create value through accelerated mergers and acquisitions. The firm also plans to expand its internal value-creation capabilities to provide additional support to portfolio businesses.
These capabilities are central to the private equity model, which seeks to increase the value of businesses during the investment period before eventually exiting those holdings. In addition to pursuing acquisitions, private equity firms can help portfolio companies improve operating efficiency, enter new markets and strengthen their competitive positions.
Investcorp’s North American Private Equity group has more than 40 years of experience. Since its inception, the group has completed more than 75 middle-market investments with an aggregate transaction value exceeding $25 billion. That track record provides a foundation for the firm’s continued investment activity across North America.
The closing of Fund II at $1.22 billion gives Investcorp additional capacity to pursue new investments and support the development of existing portfolio companies.
